Oh No! The Couch is Leaking! - We've stated it before but the child's mind is fertile ground for adventure with even the simplest of stimuli. The objective of this adventure is to bond with your child and see just how creative that young mind can be when it isn't being drained of all its potent natural energy by the television. |
Don't worry if you're not the best story teller. Neither, likely, is your child. The important thing is to go with the flow and act appropriately apprehensive, confident or heroic as the story unfolds. If your trip through the jungle suddenly finds you in a pitched battle with natives or transforming robots from planet Z, that's fine. Just go with it and enjoy the wonderful way in which your child's mind works. |
Join your child on the couch and have an imaginary adventure together. Pretend the couch is a canoe drifting along the Amazon River and the two of you, daring and intrepid explorers, are paddling your way to ancient ruins in search of the Golden Mask of Tuwallawatchamacallit. Or, if you prefer, your couch can be a stealthy submarine, slipping under the arctic ice in search of enemies. Or it can be a space ship hurtling through the vast galaxy on a daring mission to discover alien worlds and bizarre new life. |
If you want to add to the experience, a little bit goes a long way. A "settings" tape/cd such as those that play ocean, stream, wilderness or jungle sounds can really bring the story to life in your child's mind. Dramatic music such as that in a Lucas Film's Star Wars movie soundtrack can really pack a punch and make those evil alien's in your child's mind feel that much more sinister and in need of a good zapping. |
